On the Sorting tab of the Options dialog box, you specify the default sorting options for word lists. Phonology Assistant saves options separately for each project.
Your changes will affect new word lists, but do not affect existing word lists (for example, in Data Corpus view) until the next time you open the project.
In the Word List Type list, select a type. Then, do any of the following sets of steps.
The Column Sort Options list displays fields that are selected on the Word Lists tab.
At
the left of each field on
which to sort, select ()
the check box.
To
sort a selected field in ascending order (that is, low to high in
value), select () the check box in the Ascending column.
To
sort a selected field in descending order (high to low), clear ()
the check box.
The first selected field in the list is the primary sort field.
To move a field
in the list, click it, and then click the up
arrow or the down
arrow
.
If Phonetic is selected in the Column Sort Options list, do one of the following in the Phonetic Sort Options area:
Click Place or Backness to sort by bilabial, labiodental, dental, and so on.
Click Manner or Height to sort by plosive, nasal, trill, and so on.
If you selected Search Results or Distribution Chart Search Results in the Word List Type list, then you can specify the primary, secondary, and tertiary order of the search item, preceding environment, and following environment:
At the right of Preceding,
click () under one of the following: 1st,
2nd, or 3rd
(that is, the preceding environment is sorted first, second, or third).
At the right of Item,
click () under one of the following: 1st,
2nd, or 3rd.
At the right of Following,
click () under one of the following: 1st,
2nd, or 3rd.
To sort a part of the search
results (for example, the Preceding
environment) from right-to-left, select () the
check box under R/L.
In word lists, you can click column headings to sort the data or right-click the Phonetic column to specify phonetic sort options.
If you want changes to sort
options in existing word lists to affect the default sorting options
when Phonology Assistant displays new word lists, first make sure to select
()
the Save last manually specified sort options
as the default check box.
