The data source properties tell Phonology Assistant (PA) how to interpret the data when it loads Standard Format file and what PA should do when you click Edit Source Record on the Edit menu.
To set the properties for a Standard Format data source, do the following:
In the Project Settings or New Project Settings dialog box, select the desired data source in the Data Sources list, and then click Properties.
The Standard Format Data Source Properties dialog box appears.
Specify the Parsing Options.
Specify the Field Mappings.
If you need PA to be able to call the program used to edit data source records, do one of the following:
For data sources of type SFM, an Editor box appears at the bottom of the dialog box. Enter the full path to the program used to edit the file or click Browse to display the Standard Format Data Source Editor dialog box in which you may browse the file system for the editor.
For data sources of type Toolbox, a First Toolbox Sort Field drop-down list appears at the bottom of the dialog box. Select the desired sort field.
To save changes, click OK.
PA distinguishes SFM and Toolbox as two data source types of Standard Format data.
To determine what is the First Toolbox Sort Field, you can use Toolbox to open the Toolbox project to which the data source file belongs. Switch to the data source file. On the Database menu of Toolbox, click Sorting. The first field in the Sort Fields list is the First Toolbox Sort Field.
The Source File pane is provided for reference only. It displays the entire contents of the data source file and can be used as an aid when setting the Parsing Options and Field Mappings.
We recommend that you convert non-Unicode Standard Format files before you add them to a PA project.
