Phonology Assistant (PA) has options for word lists, lexical data, ordinary text data, and interlinearized text data.
If there is only one phonetic "word" in each record in a Standard Format data source, you can use the default option: Parse only the phonetic.
If any records contain more than one phonetic "word," you need to specify how PA "parses" Standard Format fields. In the Parsing Options area in the Standard Format Data Source Properties dialog box, click one of the following:
Do not parse any fields: To analyze phonetic phrases in word lists or lexical data.
Each Standard Format record corresponds to one PA record. The contents of corresponding Standard Format and PA fields are identical.
Parse only the phonetic: To analyze phonetic words in word lists, lexical data, or text data.
Each phonetic "word" in a Standard Format record corresponds to a PA record. The contents of other mapped Standard Format fields are repeated in all the PA records that correspond to the Standard Format record.
Parse assuming a one-to-one correspondence: To analyze phonetic words in ordinary text data with other non-interlinearized data fields (for example, word glosses or parts of speech).
Each word in the parsable field with the largest number of "words" corresponds to a PA record. The corresponding "words" from the parsable fields go into the same PA records. The contents of non-parsable mapped Standard Format fields are repeated in all the PA records that correspond to the Standard Format record.
The parsable fields are Phonetic, Phonemic, Tone, Gloss, Secondary Gloss, Other Gloss, Orthographic, Part of Speech, CV Pattern, Audio File Offset, and Audio File Length.
Parse as interlinear: To analyze phonetic words in interlinearized text data.
Each "word" in the first interlinear Standard Format field in a record corresponds to a PA record. The corresponding aligned data in each interlinear field goes into the same PA record. The contents of non-interlinear mapped Standard Format fields are repeated in all the PA records that correspond to the Standard Format record.
You must select a field from the First interlinear field list.
You select the check box in the Interlinear Field? column for each interlinear Standard Format field in the Field Mappings list.
