In order for Phonology Assistant (PA) to read any data from a Standard Format data source type and what PA should do when you click Edit Source Record on the Edit menu, it needs to know two things:
which field in data source records marks the beginning of records
which fields in data source records map to what PA fields.
You provide this information, in the Standard Format Data Source Properties dialog box:
Click the Record Marker control, and then click the field that begins each source record.
Click the First Toolbox Sort Field control, and then click the field that the data uses for its sort order.
If you see a warning message when you use Edit Source Record, you may need to change the field selected here.
Click the cell in the Field column, and then click the field into which you what the data to appear in PA. Repeat this step for each field you want mapped.
For example, if you want data from the \ph field in source records read into the Phonetic field in PA, click in the cell in the Field column adjacent to the \ph and click Phonetic.
In you are permitted, you can click the cell in the Type column and choose a data type for a mapped field.
To remove a mapping between a Standard Format marker and an associated PA field, click the cell in the Field column, and then click (no mapping) from the list.
Click OK.
The Standard Format Data Source Properties dialog box closes. The New Project Settings dialog box or the Project Settings dialog box is still open, so you can continue.
PA assumes that each Standard Format record contains at most one occurrence of each field that you map to a PA field. This assumption might not be true for lexical data and interlinearized text data.
