The upper pane of the Charts & Chart Building panel contains items you can use to build search items and search environments in Distribution Charts view. The items are on the following tabs:
The Con. and Vow. tabs contain the consonant and vowel phones that occur in data sources of the open project.
The Other tab contains the non-consonant and non-vowel phonetic characters in the standard inventory of Phonology Assistant, not just those that occur in data sources of the open project.
Diacritics,
Stress, Length,
Boundary, Tone
and Pitch-Phonation are category headings.
Click a heading to expand () or
collapse (
) it.
The Classes tab contains the classes defined in the open project.
The Descriptive Features and Distinctive Features tabs contain the descriptive and distinctive features defined in Phonology Assistant.
Before you insert a distinctive feature, click
in the box () at the left of the feature name
until the feature has the proper +/- state.
You can click to select a search item or search environment cell, and then do either of the following:
To insert from the Con., Vow. or Other tab, click the phone or character.
To insert from the Classes, Descriptive Features or Distinctive Features tab, double-click the class or feature.
You can drag an item from any of the tabs to a cell.
The categories (Diacritics, Stress, Length, Boundary, Tone and Pitch-Phonation) match the categories in the Search Options drop-down pane, the Patterns & Pattern Building pane, and the Value column when you work with filters. The CV Patterns tab categories are similar.
