In Phonology Assistant, a class is a set of phones, descriptive features, or distinctive features. In a search pattern, a class can match one phone.
On the Tools menu, click Classes.
The Classes dialog box appears.
Do any of the following:
To add a class, click Add, and then click one of the following class types: Phones Class, Descriptive Features Class, or Distinctive Features Class.
A dialog box appears: Phones Class, Descriptive Features Class, or Distinctive Features Class.
To modify an existing class, select the class, and then click Modify.
A dialog box appears: Phones Class, Descriptive Features Class, or Distinctive Features Class.
To copy a class, select the class, and then click Copy.
A new class appears in the list. Its name is Copy of followed by the name of the copied class. You can type a new class name, or leave the existing name.
To finish editing the name of the copied class, press Enter or click away from the class name.
To delete a class, select the class, and then click Delete.
To sort the list by class name, click the Name heading. To sort by class type, click the Type heading. If you click a heading more than once, the sort order alternates between ascending and descending. The heading of the active sorted column displays an arrow at the right. When the column is sorted in ascending order, the arrow points up. When the column is sorted in descending order, the arrow points down.
To save changes, click OK.
To modify an existing class, you can double-click the class in the list. You can also select the class, and then press Enter.
To edit the name of an existing class, select the class name in the list, and then click it (not double-click). You can also select the class, and then press F2. Edit the class name, and then press Enter.
The default name of a new added class is New Class. We recommend that you enter a meaningful name, especially because class names must be unique.
If you let the mouse pointer rest on a class name in the list, a ScreenTip displays the class members.
