Ignored Suprasegmentals

In Consonant Chart or Vowel Chart view, you may control which phones modified by suprasegmental diacritics are displayed and which ones are not. For example, suppose your project data sources contains the phone a and the same phone modified with the acute accent, high tone mark á. If you choose to ignore the acute accent, high tone suprasegmental, then on the chart, the phone á will be treated like the phone a and á will not be displayed in the chart. If, however, you choose not to ignore the acute accent, high tone suprasegmental, then both a and á will be displayed in the chart.

To specify what suprasegmentals to ignore when displaying phones in a consonant or vowel chart, do the following:

  1. On the toolbar, click Ignore to open the Ignored Suprasegmentals window.

    The window displays suprasegmental characters.

  2. To ignore a suprasegmental, click it until it is highlighted. To not ignore a suprasegmental, click it until it is not highlighted.

  3. To apply the selections you have made, click Refresh Chart to redraw the chart with the modified list of ignored suprasegmentals.
