In Distribution Charts view, a search result of no matches seems incorrect.
A cell displays zero when no matches for the search pattern occur in the data.
You might expect no matches in some cells of a chart (for example, if you search for complementary distribution of phones).
However, it is important to make sure none of the following problems occurred.
A cell displays an error
icon
if the search pattern contains a syntax error.
If you hold your mouse pointer over the error icon, a ScreenTip displays the search pattern and describes the error. It has three hyperlinks:
One hyperlink opens a suggested Help topic.
One hyperlink launches your default email service and open an email. The email address, subject line and body are filled in. You can then add more information manually and send that email (if you have Internet service).
One hyperlink copies the content of the error message to your computer's clipboard. Then you can paste it in an email or editor for subsequent considerations.
A cell displays a red triangle
() at the upper right if the search pattern contains
the following problems.
If you let the mouse pointer rest on the cell, a ScreenTip displays the search pattern and provides details about the problem.
Phones that do not occur in the data sources of the open project.
If the ScreenTip identifies a phone that does not seem relevant to the search pattern, look for a misspelled descriptive feature or distinctive feature name.
Phonology Assistant (PA) misinterprets the letters in an incorrect feature name as phones. The ScreenTip identifies any of the phones that do not occur in the data. However, if they all occur in the data, the cell does not display a red triangle.
If the ScreenTip identifies a problem with one or more phones that does not seem relevant to the search pattern, look for a misspelled distinctive feature name.
PA misinterprets + preceding an incorrect feature name. The cell does not display a red triangle.
